The Importance of HEALTHY Summer Drinks For Kids

Dear Moms – have you thought of healthy options for summer drinks for kids?

For most kids, summertime is playtime and there's nothing better than to be running around free with friends. No school nor homework, just endless, carefree playing, running, and climbing outside.

In light of this, we need to be serving great summer drinks for kids so they get sufficient liquids throughout the day and remain healthy and energetic while playing.

What Makes for Great Summer Drinks for Kids?

Many parents give their kids soda or fruit drinks to refresh them. This is actually unwise as both types of beverages pack whopping amounts of sugar (sodas typically amount up to nearly 3 tablespoons of sugar per serving!) This in turn can lead to health problems in our children, especially if that's all they drink all day.

What kids need are natural drink mixes. These, combined with healthy low cal snacks, will help children maintain the energy levels needed for fun and play.

Ideas for Healthy Summer Drinks for Kids

Chocolate Smoothies. Take one cup of chocolate soy milk, a peeled banana (or two!) a cup of ice cubes, and some peanut butter. Add them to a blender and mix them all up until smooth! These make for great natural drink mixes.

Fruit Smoothies. Takehalf a cup of fruit juice and blend it with pineapple slices, strawberries, bananas and 1/4 th cup of soy milk. You can use other fruits too; they all make for awesome and refreshing summer drinks for kids.

If you're tempted to serve pure fruit juice though remember that they contain large amounts of sugar. Stick with natural drink mixes and healthy low cal snacks during summer and your child will be healthier and have more fun.
