Family Fun Time! Great Snacks to Make with Children

Perhaps there's no better place to get creative than in the kitchen! That's because not only can you have fun cooking up interesting snacks and dishes, but you can do so in the healthiest, most nutritious manner. Thinking of low carb snacks to make with children that are just as tasty as popular unhealthy food? Now that's creativity!

So what's a parent to do especially if you are not particularly gifted in the culinary arts? Don't worry; there are plenty of ideas and tricks for you to heed in order to provide your kids with healthy popular snacks. You don't have to be a professional chef to be a good snack maker and you can have your children participate too for great bonding time!

Healthy Snack Alternatives

Fruits are perhaps your best bet when it comes to making lo carb snacks that capture your children's attention and provide them with nutrients.

For example, healthy popular snacks might include fruit punch-flavored natural drink mixes instead of sodas or other sugar-intensive drinks. You can bet you'll be doing your child a big favor by giving him a drink that's fortified with vitamins and nutrients (and tastes good!) over a soda that’s more likely to cause acidity than anything else.

As for what to eat, why not go for dried fruits, home-made chewy granola bars, tortillas with sweet veggie-based salsas, boiled finger foods, or fruit salad? A great variation on the fruit theme is… fruit kebabs! Cut up fruits and some low-fat cheese and skewer on toothpicks and voila! healthy, fun, afternoon snacks for the kids.

Ok, sometimes, no matter how ‘artful’ the presentation is, a plate of veggies is still a plate of veggies so why not MIX?

Some moms, knowing that their kids are not crazy about carrots will give in too easily and put a plate of chips on the table. Don’t do this. Instead, just give in a little.

Instead of handing over a cola or sugar-laden fruit juice, go for natural fruit drink mixes.

Instead of store-bought chips, why not make home-made baked potato chips? This is a great snack to make with children… and putting in some carrot curls in there won’t hurt too!
