Eating A Healthy Balanced Diet - How To Get Your Kids In On It
For many parents these days, getting children to eat healthy food and lo carb snacks is harder than pulling teeth. Somehow, the lure of junk food and sugar-intensive substances is stronger than a well-made, nutritious meal. We need to help our kids understand that junk food, while tasty (in a fake kind of way), is not as cool and fun as it is made out to be.
Taking Steps Towards Eating a Healthy Balanced Diet
Don't despair if you feel you're waging a losing battle with your kids when it comes to eating a healthy balanced diet. The battle can still be won. Here are some ideas:
- Lead By Example. As a parent, you must eat healthy before you demand that your kids eat healthy too. They will find little motivation to change if they continue to see you gobble down hamburgers and sodas all the time. Eat lo carb snacks and they will too.
- Take Time to Cook. Many parents believe they don't have time to prepare healthy meals. But is this really true? What if you cut down on certain activities like watching TV, surfing the internet, or reading a book in your downtime? All you need is at least an extra hour to prepare food. Bear in mind there are plenty of healthy, 30-minute recipes out there that you can adopt if you are truly on a tight schedule.
- Promote lo carb snacks. Pick out healthy snacks for children so that they will have alternatives at home and for bringing to school. Make it easier for them to eat better by actually giving them healthy options.
- MOVE. Family exercise can be fun! Go to a nearby park with your kids and while the afternoon away on the swings and trampolines. If you have a dog, walk your pet out during times your kids can accompany you. Do some gardening and let your child help out.
You can help your child develop a taste for an active lifestyle and eating a healthy balanced diet. It just takes time, dedication, and a little patience. Stick with the program!
